Suppliers in Mississippi and Tennessee where they cut saplings that would not mature anyhow because of the lack of light under the canopy.
There are two factors:
- If the wood is harvested during the winter months when the sap is dormant, bark separation will not occur. The opposite is true.
- If the pieces are overheated during the steaming process, the bark can separate instantly, leading to the rejection of those pieces.
All the pieces are steamed to eliminate any potential issues with powder post beetle larvae inside the wood, and some pieces are subsequently bent to shape. However, it’s not impossible for a piece or two to slip through the process. If a piece of furniture is constructed and sold, and the larva hatches in the wood, resulting in a mysterious pile of sawdust beneath the furniture, there’s no need to worry. This occurrence is rare, and we are dedicated to addressing the issue by either treating or replacing the affected piece. If you have any concerns or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out we would be happy to discuss it further.
